Liturgy for Ezekiel Worship Service

This is the beginning of a service I wrote for a sermon based on Ezekiel 37:1-14 (The Valley of the Dry Bones). The call to worship is derived from that passage. The unison confession asks God to give life to the different parts of our bodies, drawing on passages throughout Scripture.

Call to Worship

Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD!
This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones:

I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons
to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin;
I will put breath in you, and you will come to life.

Then you will know that I am the LORD.

Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD!

Opening Songs

“Song of the Prophets” (stanzas 1, 4, 18) (LUYH #53)
“Holy Spirit, Living Breath of God” (LUYH #746)

Unison Confession

Apart from you, Lord, we are dead in our sins,
like a valley strewn with dry bones.
Make every part of us alive so that we can serve you wholeheartedly.
Remove our heart of stone and give us a heart of flesh.
Give life to our eyes so we can fix them on Jesus.
Give life to our ears so we can hear what the Spirit is saying.
Give life to our tongues so we can proclaim your righteousness.
Give life to our hands so that we can extend them to those in need.
Give life to our feet so that we can bring good tidings.
Give us an undivided heart and put a new spirit in us.

Assurance of Pardon

When you were dead in your sins, God made you alive with Christ!
He has
forgiven all your sins!

Thanks be to God!

Song of Response
